Local democracy in action for a greener, more peaceful world

Location & Lodging

"Future Cities 2009" is scheduled to take place in Wisconsin's beautiful State Capitol Building, and in the Inn on the Park hotel, located just across the street on the Capitol Square. On-site registration begins at noon on Friday and runs through Sunday morning. Please make the registration area at the Mezzanine of the Inn on the Park your first stop.

Directions to the Inn on the Park, as well as parking suggestions, are available here:

Lodging information

A limited number of rooms are available at a significantly reduced rate ($89/night one bed, $99 two beds, $129 suites) at Madison's Inn on the Park hotel, our host hotel. In order to receive these special rates, you must make your room reservation as soon as possible; rooms are limited at this rate. Call the Inn on the Park today at 800-279-8811

If you want to consider other lodging options, you might want to go ahead and obtain a room through any number of useful discount hotel websites. We recommend looking at the following sites: www.Kayak.com, www.Priceline.com, www.Orbitz.com, and www.Hotwire.com. Each of these sites works differently, and each provide their room discounts in different ways. If you would like to reserve a room close to the conference site (and we recommend you do that), you will want to be sure the hotel is located in the downtown or campus areas. Another option to consider might be the Madison Hostel

Finally, we are working to establish home stay accommodations with local hosts. If you would like to register for a potential home stay, please click here.

BACKGROUND

Cities are assuming an active role in nuclear abolition and climate protection initiatives. Over 900 mayors have signed the U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, pledging to work to implement the Kyoto Protocol in their own communities.

Future Cities 2009 follows on a similar, smaller conference hosted by Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie last October. For the details on that event, click here.
