1,000 Friends of Wisconsin

1000 Friends of Wisconsin was created to protect and enhance Wisconsin’s urban and rural landscapes by providing citizens with the inspiration, information and tools they need to effectively participate in the decisions that have the greatest impact on community health: where we live, work, learn, play and how we get from one place to another.

Family Farm Defenders

Our mission is to create a farmer-controlled and consumer-oriented food and fiber system, based upon democratically controlled institutions that empower farmers to speak for and respect themselves in their quest for social and economic justice. FFD has worked to create opportunities for farmers to join together in new cooperative endeavors, form a mutual marketing agency, and forge alliances with consumers through providing high quality food products while returning a fair price to farmers.

Four Lakes Green Party of Dane County

The Four Lakes Green Party is south central Wisconsin's Green Party chapter. We have elected more Greens to office than any other chapter in the United States! We work with the Campus Greens at UW-Madison and elsewhere. And we are always working with our elected officials to implement Green policy at the local level. New members are always welcome.

Green Horizons Foundation

The Green Horizon Foundation began in 2003 with the excitement of producing a magazine, and then also a website, that can give positive and constructively critical support to people in the trenches working to change the world. We explore, invigorate, deepen, and expand the understanding of Green leadership. Our philosophy is expressed in these Ten Key Values: Ecological Wisdom, Personal and Social Responsibility, Grass Roots Democracy, Non-violence, Community Economics, Decentralization, Respect for Diversity, Gender Equality, Global Responsibility, and Thinking to the Seventh Generation.

Nation of Islam - Madison

Madison area community of the Nation of Islam led by Maurice Muhammad.

Peace Action-Wisconsin

Peace Action-Wisconsin is a peace and justice organization which works for a world where human needs are met, the environment is preserved, and the threats of war and nuclear weapons have been abolished. We are committed to non-violence as a way of life and offer our members opportunities for education, lobbying and public witness.

Progressive Dane

We, the members of Progressive Dane, join together to form an independent political party in Dane County with a major focus on local issues. We pledge to work to improve the quality of life in Dane County for all people, particularly those marginalized by economic and social discrimination. We will work to improve our local government by making it open, easier to understand, and accessible for all citizens of Dane County. We are working to achieve positive policy change by electing accountable progressive officials and mobilizing citizen action.

Progressive Democrats of America

Progressive Democrats of America was founded in 2004 to transform the Democratic Party and our country. We seek to build a party and government controlled by citizens, not corporate elites -- with policies that serve the broad public interest, not just private interests. As a grassroots PAC operating inside the Democratic Party, and outside in movements for peace and justice, PDA played a key role in the stunning electoral victory of November 2006 and 2008. Our inside/outside strategy is guided by the belief that a lasting majority will require a revitalized Democratic Party built on firm progressive principles.

BACKGROUND

Cities are assuming an active role in nuclear abolition and climate protection initiatives. Over 900 mayors have signed the U.S. Conference of Mayors Climate Protection Agreement, pledging to work to implement the Kyoto Protocol in their own communities.

Future Cities 2009 follows on a similar, smaller conference hosted by Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie last October. For the details on that event, click here.
